The Quiet Hours

Material: Tinted vinyl, vintage fabric, wood
Themes: Multi-generational craft and material storytelling

The Quiet Hours reimagines quilts as stained glass windows, transforming them into immersive, light-filled structures. Made from tinted vinyl and heirloom fabric, the quilts drape over wooden arches, creating a kaleidoscopic space that viewers can walk or crawl through.

It’s a celebration of generational craft and shared materials. The structure consists of a series of wooden arches inspired by agricultural hoop houses. These curved wooden ribs support translucent quilts sewn from tinted vinyl and fabric sourced from my grandmother’s collection. The combination of traditional textiles and modern materials allows sunlight to filter through in changing patterns that move across the ground throughout the day.

Viewers are invited to experience the installation as both shelter and passage. It's a place to slow down, rest, and reflect. The work honors the labor, tenderness, and memory embedded in handmade works.
